Latest and greatest...

Between the crummy weather and the porch remodeling, I've slacked on posts (and hills!) again. So here's a quick update!

Yesterday: 2.7 in 25:38. A minute slower than previous day. Booo! I blame the shins. They're an easy scapegoat; they can't talk to anyone (except me, when they're screaming in pain).

Today: attempted a 4-mile route to see if I can make it my new morning route. It's definitely a nice run. Relatively flat, with just one short hill and one long road that runs at a slight incline for the length of it. That's good though; I don't think I could handle any steep hills at 6AM on barely any breakfast. Finished in 38:08. Much better! And perfectly doable for my early morning runs before work. I think I'm going to make this my new regular route (for now) and just do the 2.7-mile block as an option on recovery days. Also better - the shins! Not sure why. I did lunges yesterday morning before my run and the shin pain was still there. This morning, my legs were overall a bit sore so I made sure to stretch quite a bit. Maybe the extra stretching made a difference; I only had the shin pain from maybe 8-15 minutes. An improvement, nonetheless.

In far more exciting news, Callie the wonderdog chased a woodchuck up a tree in the backyard. I didn't even know they could climb trees! I guess they can when a crazed Australian shepherd is bearing down on them at full speed. I snapped some photos (of course); the poor thing shut its eyes at one point because the wind was blowing so hard that the wee tree it was wrapped around was actually swaying. I think I just may have witnessed a woodchuck praying...I went back outside a few minutes ago to make sure it was able to make it back down the tree. Whether it scurried back down or fell the 8 feet, I'm not positive, but it's moved on now.

Oh, the excitement...

Back to porch construction!
